I’ve been blogging for about two months now, and, while some days are full of amazing accomplishments, many other days are filled with an overwhelming sense of inferiority and hopelessness. It’s one of those “the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know” situations. With another full-time job, it’s hard to find the extra time and motivation to devote to learning more about the blogging world. Being nominated for the Liebster Award 2017 was just the confidence-boost I needed to refocus and keep moving forward! Honestly, I didn’t know what the Liebster Award was until I was nominated, but I see now that I’m not alone. The Official Rules of the Liebster Award 2017 was a helpful guide that gave me some background on the award for new bloggers and how to nominate others! It also includes great pictures to use for free for those of you who have been nominated!
The Liebster Award is an award created by bloggers for bloggers. It’s a simple process that revolves around thanking the blogger that nominated you and then nominating five other bloggers who have 200 readers or fewer. The award has been around since 2011, and it evolves as the blogging community evolves.
I would like to thank Travel for Stamps for their nomination! I love looking at travel blogs for inspiration! Travel for Stamps is an amazing, beautiful blog, and I was very surprised and humbled to be selected as a nominee from such an amazing blogger! Below you will find the questions they’ve asked me to answer, my nominees, questions for my nominees, and rules for the award.
Questions & Answers
What inspired you to start your blog?
I was inspired by a 5-Day email crash course for bloggers that I signed up for two months ago. I stumbled upon it via a Facebook ad and thought I’d give it a shot. I’ve always enjoyed sharing stories with those around me, but I never really knew the best way to start a blog. The stories from other bloggers in the community I joined were what truly inspired me to go out of my comfort zone and start my own blog.
What are your travel goals?
My general travel goals are to travel near, far, and often. I want to see more of the world beyond the U.S, but I also understand that there are many incredible sights to see in my own backyard! As a teacher, my goal is to be able to fill my weekends with nearby adventures and my summers with far away adventures. I’d like to include my husband and as many friends as possible in these excursions.
If you could only take 1 more trip, where would you go?
What a hard question! I’d probably take a backpacking trip through Europe. Does that count? 😉 That way, I’d cross off as many countries as possible in this one trip! I’ve seen England, Spain, and France, but there are so many other beautiful destinations in Europe that I’d love to explore!
What’s your favorite place you’ve visited?
That’s a tie. I’ve traveled to some beautiful countries over the last few years, but my the two places that influenced my life the most were Burkina Faso and Ecuador. Burkina Faso is a little country in Africa that I visited for three weeks to teach English. Life in Burkina was simple and beautiful. I met some of the most amazing people who changed my perspective on a lot of areas in my own life. The next fall, I went to Ecuador for the semester to study Spanish. Again, the people I met there changed my life completely. Latina life is truly the lifestyle for me. I felt so relaxed, so free, so alive during my time there. I went on some of the most amazing adventures and formed life-long friendships. Just writing about these two places makes me eyes water and my heart long to return…
When do you find time to blog?
Currently, most of my blogging is done on Saturday mornings. After a good night’s sleep, I feel rested and rejuvenated and ready to write some new content. It’s difficult for me to find time to blog during the week as a full-time English teacher, so I do most of my social media sharing on weeknights. I’d like to increase my blog and social to roughly four-posts a week, meaning I’d need to write those posts on Saturday and then publish throughout the week when I’m busier.
Solo travel or group travel?
There are benefits to both! I definitely enjoy group traveling, both for missions trips and tourist trips. Mission trips let you lean on others for support during exhausting moments in the trip, and group tourist trips through programs like World Vision allow you to see the best of the best with minimal planning on your end! My trip to England would not have been nearly as amazing as a solo trip because I would not have known how to plan all the little details that go into a 10-day trip through a country! Also, tour guides are always a must. You just can’t get the same fascinating information alone! The closest I’ve gotten to “solo” traveling was flying alone to Ecuador, but I met up with three other study abroad students when I got there. Through blogging, I do intend to take one solo trip a year, whether near or far away. I’m more of an introvert at heart, and I need time to get away, write, and reflect on life.
What is your fondest memory from your travels?
One of my fondest memories from my travels is from my first trip abroad to Spain. On my first night in Spain, I ate a delicious dinner on the beach and then walked with my aunt and my grandma to watch the sunset over the ocean. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. Overall, the beauty of the country and culture of Spain was what inspired me to travel more.
What are the top 3 places you want to go that you haven’t been to yet?
Thailand, Ireland, and Belize. These are three countries that I frequently look up information about on Pinterest and travel sites! I just think they are breathtakingly beautiful, full of unique opportunities, and overflowing with new cultural experiences!
Why do you travel?
As cliche as it sounds, I travel to experience the world around me and all it has to offer. I am always looking for new perspectives on life and what it means to people of other cultures and backgrounds. I love seeing new sights, meeting new people, practicing new cultural norms, and eating new food!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own blog?
I would definitely advise joining the blogging community that I am a part of! Message me for a link to the Facebook page and free email course. Starting a new blog is fun and causes me to live my life more intentionally, but it can also be super stressful at times, so it is nice to have a safe place to ask all the necessary questions! I would also suggest spending time to think of your niche, your reason for why you want to blog, and your goals for blogging. I’ve started a handwritten journal where I keep track of yearly and monthly goals, maintain an idea list, and draft/schedule new posts for the week/month. It’s so helpful to spend time away from the computer screen thinking about blogging and feeling the creativity spark inside of me. Good luck, fellow bloggers! May your blog take you to many new places!
